Less than 6 months before the official release of Samsung’s next generation Galaxy Z series devices. Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 folding screen phones sometime in August or September of this year, and now the features and design characteristics of these new phones have been revealed.
The leak revealed more information about the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which will have a huge secondary display.
According to tipster SuperRoader, the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s secondary display can be divided into two parts. A smaller display can be seen next to its dual cameras, which displays the clock, battery level and AR emoji.
When folded, the larger secondary display (Expected to be 3.4 inches) can span the rest of the back of the phone with an aspect ratio of 1:1.038, which means it’s almost square. It’s easier to interact with notifications, quick settings and widgets without having to open the phone. It can also double as a better camera viewfinder.
Another design change is the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s straight-edge bezel + rounded corners design. Thanks to the rumored teardrop-shaped hinge, the phone is expected to fold completely flat, with no gap between the two parts of the device. The fingerprint recognition is located on the side. According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 still has an IPX8 water resistance rating. The phone’s internal display is reportedly narrower than the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
Ice Universe has also hinted at new touchscreen technology for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5. The phones are expected to feature a folding screen with barely visible creases, a larger primary camera sensor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chips and longer battery life.
"Both the Fold 5 and Flip 5 feature a waterdrop hinge and support IPX8 water resistance. The size of Fold 5 differs from that of Fold 4 by only 0.2mm, which is almost understandably the same size. However, when folded, the seam disappears and becomes thinner, reducing the thickness to 13.x mm. Weighing 254g, the outer screen is still 6.2 inches The outer screen of Flip 5 is almost square, 3.4 inches, so this outer screen will take up most of the area. The bezel inside the screen will be narrower."
