Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 passed durability test

Samsung’s latest folding-screen phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, underwent a durability test by YouTube blogger JerryRigEverything, and the test showed that the redesigned hinge and rear case were stronger than expected.

Since the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s outer screen is bigger and better than its predecessor, JerryRigEverything first tested the outer screen. The results were decent, with only noticeable scratches under the Mohs 6 tool, thanks to the protective layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

It is noticed that under the pre-installed screen protector, the machine’s inner folding screen had obvious scratches under a tool with a Mohs hardness of 3, which also explains why Samsung will prompt Users to pay attention to the protection of the folding screen and the company recommends not to press the protective film too much when using the folding screen. In addition, there is a layer of plastic that wraps the display screen, which is also easily scratched. It acts as a buffer to protect the folding screen from damage when it is closed. This is especially important because Samsung has narrowed the gap between the screens in this generation of models.

In the test, JerryRigEverything also conducted a scratch test on the aluminum frame, rear case and newly designed hinge, and the results were also easily scratched. Another extreme test is the sand test. JerryRigEverything sprinkled sand on the entire device, including the hinge, folding screen and outer screen. Surprisingly, the Flip 5 was not affected too much, because the machine has an IPX8 protection rating, although Not dustproof, but sand doesn’t affect it much.

Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 successfully passed the crucial reverse bend test, making it one of the few foldable phones to pass this test. That’s a testament to Samsung’s redesigned hinge, as well as the strength of the glass on the back of the device, which prevents the device from bending backwards too much.
