Samsung expected to build a semiconductor factory in Vietnam

The foreign media is reporting that a high-level delegation from Vietnam visited South Korea and held a relevant meeting with the South Korean side, mentioning the expected exploration of Samsung Electronics in Vietnam to build a factory. The Vietnamese delegation includes a large number of economic representatives, and executives from a number of large Korean automotive groups such as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai are expected to participate in the meeting, and both sides are expected to have in-depth discussions on investment and other matters.

As the head of Samsung Group, Lee Jae-yong, who has been promoted to the executive chairman of Samsung Electronics, is expected to participate in the meeting, and foreign media also mentioned in the report that the Vietnamese side may propose Lee Jae-yong to invest in the construction of semiconductor factories.

It is worth noting that the Vietnamese side of the people concerned, in October 2018, November 2019 and October 2020, had proposed to Lee Jae-yong 3 times to set up a semiconductor factory in Vietnam.

The foreign media also mentioned in the report that the Vietnamese side is seeking to attract investment from foreign core manufacturers and they have succeeded in attracting investment from Intel, whose total investment in Vietnam has reached $1.5 billion and has 2,800 employees in the country.

Samsung Electronics is currently the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, and also has an R&D center in Vietnam, which is the largest R&D center of Samsung Electronics in Southeast Asia and was completed last year. Lee Jae-yong visited this R&D center in October 2020, and revealed the plan to expand the investment when he met with the representatives of Vietnam.
