Samsung has announced that it will expand its supply of 5G telecom equipment to Japan’s major telecom operator NTT DoCoMo. The South Korean company will provide 5G base stations to support all major frequency bands in which the network operator offers 5G services.

The two companies signed the contract in March 2021 and have now expanded the agreement. With Japan’s high population density and NTT DoCoMo’s more than 84 million subscribers nationwide, the stability of the network communications equipment used will be critical. Since NTT DoCoMo has renewed the contract, it shows that Samsung Networks’ products are proving to be reliable even in densely populated areas.

As part of the contract renewal, Samsung Networks will offer its new ultra-light, compact 5G radio that supports the 28GHz UHF band (mmWave) and the sub-6GHz 5G band. Weighing only 4.5 kg, it can be easily installed in urban and densely populated areas.

Satoshi Iwao, general manager of Samsung Electronics’ network business in Japan, said, “The key to the mobile communications equipment market is to build a long-term trusting relationship between operators and suppliers and to jointly invest in next-generation technologies. We will jointly promote NTT DoCoMo’s 5G network by providing excellent 5G products based on our technological strength.”
