Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, two major semiconductor makers that now have three domestic subsidiaries engaged in the semiconductor business, saw their profits decline significantly in the first half of the year against a backdrop of still-strong demand for semiconductor components, BusinessKorea reported.

Samsung Electronics has two domestic subsidiaries in semiconductors, located in Xi’an and Shanghai.

In a report, the South Korean media said that Samsung Electronics released the annual report of its semiconductor business unit on Thursday, local time. The report showed that their semiconductor company in Xi’an had revenue of 4.86 trillion won in the first half of the year, up 54.8 percent year-on-year, but net profit of 321.64 billion won was less than half of the 766.651 billion won it made in the same period last year, down 58.1 percent year-on-year.

Samsung Electronics Shanghai-based semiconductor company, whose main business is the sale of semiconductors and panels, posted a net profit of 138.26 billion won in the first half of the year, down 21 percent from 175.73 billion won a year earlier. Sales also fell 13.6 percent to 1.3 trillion won, down from a year earlier.

SK Hynix’s domestic semiconductor company, which mainly produces DRAM, reported a net loss of 276.59 billion won in the first half of the year, widening from the same period last year.
