According to foreign media reports, analysts and research institutions are generally expected to have a variety of MR or XR devices launched in the next two years, including the long-rumored Apple headset, which is expected to begin mass production in the first quarter of next year, and others include Sony PlayStation VR2, Google headset.

XR devices are being launched in large numbers, and the size of the global XR devices market is expected to continue to grow in the next few years, and related parts manufacturers are preparing for the growth of this market to supply the right parts and thus take advantage of it.

The latest reports from foreign media show that Samsung Display and LG Display, two major panel makers, are developing panels for the XR devices.

From the foreign media reports, Samsung displays and LG display are currently concentrating on developing microdisplays for XR devices, where Samsung display in the simultaneous development of micro OLED and micro-LED panel technology, mass production and commercialization of the target is in 2024 and 2026 respectively; LG display is focused on micro OLED technology, they have recently achieved a resolution of 3500 pixels on the 0.42-inch silicon-based OELD, is expected to start supplying to Apple and other companies next year.

The foreign media said in the report, micro OLED and micro-LED, two display and semiconductor combinations of technology, and the XR display industry’s two most concerns about the technology, the LED and OLED deposited on a silicon wafer, rather than the existing glass and plastic display substrate.

While the weight of high pixel and high brightness displays needs to be reduced in order to achieve the high level of immersion required by XR devices, microdisplays are very small in size but allow for refinement and are therefore the right panel technology for XR devices, especially for eyewear-type XR devices.
