Rose Young: Apple won’t release an OLED-paneled MacBook before 2026

According to the latest news shared by Rose Young, CEO of the screen supply chain consulting company DSCC, Apple will not launch a MacBook Pro with an OLED panel until 2026 or 2027.

Speaking with Bloomberg Intelligence’s Woo Jin Ho in a webinar hosted by Bloomberg today, Ross Young said that Apple’s existing supply chain will need to be ready for at least three more years before it can put together a production line for large-scale laptop-sized OLED panels.

Ross Young believes Samsung Display is investing $3.1 billion in OLED production in Asan, South Korea (currently about RMB 21.328 billion), and says the facilities will be used to make OLED displays for the MacBook Pro’s 14-inch and 16-inch models starting in 2026.

Ross Young thinks it’s unlikely that the MacBook Pro will adopt OLED displays before 2026 when Apple’s supply chain is expected to have enough laptop-optimized OLED display production capacity.

Until then, Ross Young said, suppliers will focus on OLED displays for tablets, such as the iPad Pro.
