Realtek stated that fair competition can promote innovation and progress in the semiconductor industry, but unfair competition violates the Antitrust Act and will hurt corporate innovation because it will waste company resources that could have been used to invest in further R&D and innovation. Realtek emphasized that it will firmly defend the public interest and will donate the compensation obtained from this lawsuit to public welfare.

MediaTek responded that the patent lawsuit has entered the judicial process and it is inconvenient to comment on this.

It was previously reported that chipmaker Realtek Semiconductor sued rival MediaTek in the Northern California Federal Court on Tuesday, accusing the latter of reaching a secret agreement with a company specializing in patent litigation to pay a “litigation bounty” to Realtek launched baseless patent lawsuits in an attempt to disrupt Realtek’s business and monopolize the chip market for smart TVs and set-top boxes.
