Quest 3 VR headset grip tracking issue sparks user dissatisfaction

Meta is investigating tracking issues with its Quest 3 VR headset after users reported that the controller’s tracking performance was “much worse than Quest 2” in some games.

On the Meta community forum, user NotDream reported that he encountered tracking issues with the Quest 3 controller while playing Gorilla Tag, a VR game that requires waving your arms to run, jump, and climb, saying “on medium to fast hands “Lost tracking when the body is moving,” such as throwing or catching a ball.

It is noticed that other forum members under the same topic also claimed to have encountered similar tracking issues in other VR games, such as Beatsaber, Supernatural, and Tennis Esports. One of the game developers named carrotstien (allegedly the developer of Eleven Table Tennis) believes the problem stems from the LED arrangement on the controller. Carrotstien also said that “some users stuck with their Quest 2 headsets and returned their Quest 3 due to tracking issues.”

Over the past few weeks, people have posted on Reddit complaining about similar controller tracking issues, New World Notes reports. These issues seem to be especially noticeable for competitive players who use adapters, which are controller attachments, like batting grips, that make the gaming experience more natural.

In response to NotDream’s post, Meta Quest support said the team is actively investigating the tracking issue and working to improve performance, especially for “competitive players” in games like Gorilla Tag, Supernatural, IB Cricket, and Eleven Table Tennis.
