Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will be TSMC and Samsung joint OEM

Taiwan’s Industrial and Commercial Times reported that the wafer foundry leading TSMC 3 nanometer process technology has entered mass production, according to semiconductor experts, TSMC 3 nanometer yield up to 80%, foreign media cited sources revealed that Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be purchased from Samsung and TSMC, and TSMC accounted for most of the chipset, the reason may be the yield gap between the two.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is exclusively supplied by TSMC, but in November last year, foreign media quoted sources as saying that Qualcomm intends to give Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 orders to Samsung for production because TSMC’s 3nm mass production is in doubt, when TSMC delayed the 3nm mass production schedule.

TSMC 3 nanometer has now successfully entered mass production. TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin revealed in his speech at the 3nm mass production and expansion ceremony last week that the 3nm process yield is now comparable to the 5nm mass production period. Semiconductor experts have conservatively estimated that the 3nm yield rate falls around 60% to 70%, while other industry analysts have predicted 75% to 80%.

Samsung 3 nanometer process, the Taiwan media pointed out that the news previously, Samsung not only 4-nanometer process bottleneck in mass production, 3 nanometer GAA process yields of only about 10% to 20%.
