Qualcomm today officially launched the Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (GSR) technology, which is a new feature that can improve the image quality and frame rate of Android mobile games. It also prolongs the battery life of the phone. GSR technology is part of Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming, a platform that brings many desktop-level gaming features to mobile games, including ultra-high refresh rates of 144 frames per second, true 10-bit HDR color, real-time hardware Accelerated ray tracing, support for the latest Unreal Engine 5, and more.
GSR technology is a single-channel spatially-aware super-resolution technology developed by Qualcomm Snapdragon Studios, which can achieve the best super picture quality improvement while ensuring the best performance and energy saving. It uses range-based dynamic scaling and is optimized for Snapdragon Adreno graphics processing units (GPUs). Compared to other picture quality enhancement solutions on mobile devices, GSR technology has twice the performance improvement.
It is learned from Qualcomm officials that the principle of GSR technology is to increase the low-resolution game screen to high-resolution through intelligent algorithms, thereby saving rendering computing power. In this way, games that can only run at 1080p resolution can be upscaled to 4K resolution without loss of picture detail and sharpness. At the same time, games that can only reach 30 frames per second can also be increased to 60 frames or higher, making the picture smoother. And since performance is directly proportional to power consumption, using GSR technology can also extend battery life and game time.
Qualcomm said that there are already a number of games under development that will support GSR technology, including Activision’s popular game “Call of Duty Warzone Mobile” (Call of Duty Warzone Mobile) and “Fantasy New Zhu Xian International Server” (Jade Dynasty: New Fantasy), Return to Empire, Justice Mobile, Naraka Mobile, etc.
