Police charge GTA6 hackers with multiple counts, at least two others in crime

A 17-year-old from Oxfordshire, England, who is believed to be a suspected hacker in the recent leak of GTA6 content, has appeared in court in London, England. The teenager is charged with two counts of computer misuse and two counts of violating bail conditions. These latter charges may refer to the teen’s previous run-ins with police over hacking allegations – it’s suspected of hacking Microsoft and Samsung earlier this year.

The City of London Police released a statement saying: “London Police arrested a 17-year-old suspected of hacking in Oxfordshire on September 22 as part of an investigation supported by the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU). The teenager has been charged in connection with this investigation and is currently in police custody. The teenager is charged with two counts of breach of bail conditions and two counts of computer misuse and appears at Highbury Point Youth Court on September 24, 2022.”

The teenager is reportedly a member of the Lapsus$ hacking group, which has attacked companies such as Microsoft, Samsung, Uber and Nvidia, and several members of its organization are currently under investigation by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation.

A reporter said the teenage hacker who leaked the contents of GTA6 is known as “A.K.” U.S. federal law enforcement officials, working with their British counterparts, identified A.K. as a common suspect in the attacks on Rockstar and Uber. In addition, a law enforcement source said at least two other people were involved in the two attacks and more arrests are expected.

Rockstar only confirmed that they had been “hacked”, resulting in information being stolen from the server and leaked out. Rockstar insisted that the incident would not affect the development of “GTA6”, while promising that “GTA6” would definitely exceed players’ expectations.
