Pixel phones are expected to get battery health features

Google has launched a new feature that will now allow Pixel smartphone owners to better understand when their phone should be serviced with a new battery. Similar to Apple, the battery health feature displays certain metrics to help users get the most out of their devices.

Esper senior technical editor Mishaal Rahman was checking out what’s new in Android 13 QPR1 beta 2 when he stumbled upon various changes, including the addition of the Pixel Battery Health feature. It’s not as easy to view as one might think, and usually requires searching for and manually enabling the feature in the settings menu to turn it on. And the battery health option doesn’t appear on everyone, so it’s possible that Google is testing it and will only officially launch it when it’s ready.

Evidence that the battery health feature isn’t ready for a mass rollout comes from a tweet by Rahman, which reads.

“Many users have pointed out that the description text was copied from iOS. This makes me think the feature isn’t ready. (I manually enabled this page in Settings Services, if not as I did so you may not see it.)”

In any case, the feature is helpful in many situations, with useful tips to extend the battery life of Pixel smartphones, such as which chargers to use for optimal charging performance, enabling adaptive charging, optimizing other settings, and so on. There’s no confirmation yet if the feature is built into the next Android update, and it’s possible that it’s just exclusive to Pixel phones.
