Philips Hue pushes firmware update for bridge, adds Matter support

According to the German technology media Hueblog report, Philips Hue recently updated the bridge (Hue Bridge) firmware, for its products to add support for Matter.

Signify, the parent company of Philips Hue announced the addition of Matter support in 2022, then announced a delay until March 2023; Hue announced it again in August of this year, and it will go live in September of this year.

The firmware update is reportedly being pushed out globally and can be updated via the Hue app on mobile. Where there used to be voice control settings, there’s now a “Smart Home” option, which includes all the settings that matter.

Matter (formerly known as the Connected Home over IP Project, Project Connected Home over IP, or CHIP for short) is a smart home open-source standards project jointly sponsored by Amazon, Apple, Google, and the ZigBee Alliance, which aims to develop and promote a new royalty-free connectivity protocol to simplify the development costs of smart home device vendors and improve the performance of different vendors’ smart home devices.
