2020, Baidu, OPPO, Tencent, Vivo, Xiaomi and other ecological software and hardware enterprises jointly initiated the establishment of a mobile intelligent terminal ecological alliance (Intelligent Terminal Alliance, referred to as the “Gold Standard Alliance”).

This afternoon, the Gold Standard Alliance issued the “Important Notice on 64-bit Adaptation Timeline (II)”, stating that in order to better improve the performance experience of Android applications, reduce the power consumption impact of Android applications and improve user experience, mainstream application stores such as OPPO, Vivo and Xiaomi, members of the Gold Standard Alliance, will further implement the 32-bit application update package restriction strategy, as follows.

Starting from October 1, 2022: Applications other than games will no longer be allowed to update 32-bit application packages alone and can support compatibility packages or dual-package updates.

Starting from December 1, 2022, game applications will no longer be allowed to update 32-bit packages alone, and must support compatible packages or dual-package updates.

The notice points out that applications that are still not adapted by that time will not be able to be put on the shelves and updated separately, and the mobile chip platform will also weaken and stop supporting 32-bit applications, with unpredictable consequences.

The Gold Standard Alliance said that 64-bit mobile computing is the inevitable direction of ecological development, and adapting 64-bit means that applications can gain greater advantages in terms of security and performance. In the long run, the ecological upgrade with 64-bit as the core is really in the best interest of developers and users.
