OpenAI is reportedly partnering with payments company Stripe, which provides payments and subscription services for its artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, in a move that is OpenAI’s attempt to turn it into a profitable venture after capturing the public’s imagination.

This week, OpenAI released the latest version of its GPT-4 technology, saying Stripe will provide billing and checkout capabilities for payments, as well as automation and tax compliance technology.

In February, the company debuted a premium subscription service for $20 a month (currently about RMB 138), after its chatbots drew widespread public interest.

Stripe will take a small percentage of transactions made through OpenAI’s platform, said David Singleton, Stripe’s chief technology officer.

The partnership also means Stripe will integrate OpenAI’s new technology into its own products and services, and Stripe is currently experimenting with 14 GPT infrastructures.

This is good news for Stripe. The company was valued at about $50 billion in its latest round of funding, down significantly from $95 billion at the beginning of 2021.
