OmniVision Group has announced a new high-performance, low-power 2K 4 megapixel image sensor for consumer security and surveillance cameras.

The 4 megapixel image sensor provides 2K resolution digital images and 30 fps video for IP cameras and HD analog security cameras, including smart home, doorbell and baby monitoring devices, said Howell.

OmniVision official learned that OS04D CMOS image sensor with high-performance back-illuminated (BSI) pixel design, compared with the previous generation of products, power consumption reduced by 40%, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR1) increased by more than 30%, sensitivity increased by 40%.

The OS04D image sensor is based on Howell Group’s patented PureCel Plus technology and features 2.0 micron BSI pixels. Selective Conversion Gain (SCG) allows the sensor to select between low and high conversion gain depending on lighting conditions. On-chip automatic exposure control (AEC) and automatic gain control (AGC) further reduce system-on-chip (SoC) startup time. Low power consumption benefits battery-powered devices, especially doorbell security cameras.

In addition, the OS04D is available in a mainstream 1/3-inch optical size and is pin compatible with Howell’s OS04L image sensor and other new products to be launched in the future.
