Benchmark data for NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 4080 (previously known as the RTX 4080 16 GB) has emerged, and someone on the Chiphell forums has obtained samples and drivers for the RTX 4080 and ran a series of benchmarks and gaming tests against it .

Players have tested the $1,200 graphics card in 3DMark Time Spy, Port Royal, and games including Forza Horizon 5, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, Cyberpunk 2077, Borderlands 3, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

The performance of the RTX 4080 was found to be between the RTX 3090 Ti and the RTX 4090. In 3DMark Time Spy Extreme (4K) it was 71% faster than the RTX 4090, while the RTX 3090 Ti was 55% faster than the RTX 4090. When its “Power Limit” slider is maxed out, the RTX 4080 can outperform by another 2 percentage points (73% of the RTX 4090), and with a little manual OC it adds another 4 percentage points. 3DMark Port Royal changed things a bit, with the RTX 4080 performing 69% of the RTX 4090’s performance in a test where the RTX 3090 Ti was 58% of the RTX 4090.

Gaming tests present a slightly different picture, with the RTX 4080 actually performing much closer to the RTX 4090. In Horizon 5, the RTX 4090 was only 15.7% faster than the RTX 4080. It is also only 7.9% faster in CoD MWII. However, the RTX 4090 has more than 30 percent improvement over the RTX 4080 in Tomb Raider (+39%) and Cyberpunk 2077 (+37%). Given these numbers, we predict that the RTX 4080 will deliver a significant performance boost over the previous-gen RTX 3080 (10 GB), an acceptable boost over the RTX 3090 Ti, while trailing the RTX 4090 with enough performance to not commit the following.
