A new report from the Nikkei Shimbun says there will be no new Nintendo hardware until March 2023. According to the Japanese newspaper, Nintendo will not release new hardware in the current fiscal year, which will run through March 2023. In addition, the article quotes Nintendo’s CEO as saying that the Japanese gaming company wasn’t able to produce as much Switch hardware as it wanted this summer, but presumably production will improve in the coming months.

Normally, it would stock up on inventory in the summer to be ready for the end-of-year rush,” the Nikkei Shimbun article quoted Nintendo’s CEO as writing, “This summer, we weren’t able to produce as much as we have in previous years.”

“Even if we were able to produce the number we wanted, I am not optimistic that we will be able to sell them all.” The guidance calls for 18 million sales in the next nine months.

For the past few years, many have been claiming that Nintendo will release a new Switch Pro model or an entirely new console/platform. Due to the ongoing shortage and Nintendo’s president recently stating again that the Switch is still more than halfway through its lifecycle, it is likely that everyone will not see a new model or console anytime soon.
