VGChartz’s latest estimate of console sales report shows that as of December 3, 2022, global sales of the Nintendo Switch consoles have exceeded 118.2 million units.

While the Nintendo Switch is selling well in every region of the world, there are always some nuances. So far, it seems that French users are really enjoying the handheld.

Nintendo has now officially announced that the Switch has become the highest-selling game console ever in France.

It is reported that Nintendo Switch sold a total of 987,000 units in France in 2022, pushing its total sales in France to 7.1 million units. The previous record was held by Nintendo’s console Wii, which sold 6.3 million units in France.

Philippe Lavoué, general manager of Nintendo France, said the Switch’s sales curve surpassed that of the Wii in 2022, both in France and in the rest of the world. The console’s appeal remains as strong as ever, even though it is in its sixth year on the market. Fifty percent of the consoles sold in France last year were Switch.

Lavoué also revealed that the Nintendo Switch’s Pokémon brand had a “historic year” in France thanks to The Legend of Pokémon: Arzus and Pokémon: Zhu/Violet.

The 118.2 million units figure given by VGChartz is only a third-party statistic. Last August, Nintendo announced its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022-2023 (April 1, 2022 – June 30, 2022).

According to the data, Nintendo’s sales for the quarter were 307.46 billion yen, down 4.7% year-on-year, and profit was 101.647 billion yen, down 15.1% year-on-year. In terms of sales, Nintendo sold 111.08 million Switch units and 863.59 million copies of the software as of the end of June 2022, with 3.43 million Switch units and 41.41 million copies of software sold in the quarter.
