Recently, we learned from McLaren officials that the new McLaren Artura Spider will be released in China in May. At the same time, a preview will be held in Shanghai on April 25-26. McLaren’s exclusive VIP customers will be invited to the event. Artura Spider adopts a hard-top electric convertible structure. The new car is built based on McLaren lightweight carbon fiber architecture (MCLA) and is equipped with a 3.0T V6 plug-in hybrid power. The power of the new domestic model will remain at 680 horsepower, and the pure electric cruising range will be increased to 33km.

In terms of appearance, the new Artura Spider follows the current front-end shape, with a new midnight black McLaren logo, and a silver McLaren logo is optional. It has a lot of aerodynamic kit and a lightweight design. The front of the car is wide and low, and the slender headlights and the large air guide below form a pattern similar to the McLaren crescent logo. The lower enclosure is equipped with a front lip and vents made of carbon fiber. Part of the airflow is discharged from the vents above the wheels, which can greatly increase the downforce of the front of the car.

Looking from the side of the body, Artura Spider is equipped with an electric hard-top convertible mechanism, which retains the smooth body lines of the hard-top version to the greatest extent. The convertible can be opened or closed in just 11 seconds and can be operated at speeds below 50km/h. The remote control key can be used to open and close the convertible when parking. The car is also equipped with a convertible temperature management system, which uses the air conditioning system and aerodynamic design to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the car in the convertible state. In addition, the new car offers an optional electrochromic glass roof, which supports one-button operation and can create a bright cabin environment like ordinary glass, or block more than 99% of sunlight.

Looking at the rear of the car, the new Artura Spider is equipped with a center-mounted dual exhaust, and a large diffuser can further increase downforce. In addition, the heat dissipation performance of the new car’s braking system has been further improved, with a braking distance of 31 meters from 100-0km/h. The rear suspension has also been upgraded, and the response speed of the updated active damping control system has been increased by 90%, further improving handling.

Looking at the interior, the new Artura Spider is equipped with the McLaren Infotainment System (MIS II), which has a full LCD instrument and touch display, provides functions such as mobile phone mapping, and supports Apple CarPlay. The McLaren track program and drift program are also covered by this operating system. The accelerator, brake pedal, turn signal switch, etc. have all been hollowed out to further enhance the lightweight attributes. In addition, both vehicles are equipped with enhanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) functions, with new blind spot monitoring and intersection detection functions available as options, and standard traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning functions.

In terms of power, the new Artura Spider is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system composed of a 3.0T V6 twin-turbocharged engine and an electric motor, with a combined power of 680 horsepower, an acceleration time of 0-100km/h in 3 seconds, and a top speed of 330km/h. The 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox has also been upgraded, with the shifting speed increased by 25%. The exhaust system has also been upgraded, which can bring more powerful sound. The pure electric cruising range of the new car has been increased by 3km to 33km.
