Multimedia framework PipeWire 0.3.65 released: new Bluetooth MIDI support

0

The PipeWire project has released version 0.3.65 of PipeWire, a new stable update for open-source servers that handle audio and video streaming and related hardware devices on GNU/Linux systems.

PipeWire 0.3.65 adds support for Bluetooth MIDI devices — also requires the addition of WirePlumber, and adds support for Compress offload using tinycompress, which allows the use of ALSA on some devices to decode the hardware in compression format on some devices.

Another feature in PipeWire version 0.3.65 is the new native module combo stream, which users can use to create 5.1 devices from 3-channel stereo sound cards or direct output to multiple receivers at the same time.

The ALSA plugin has also received some improvements, such as new rules for adjusting buffer settings in Davinci Resolve, bringing better latency operation, better attribute handling, support for cubic volumes, and a new alsa.volume-method for configuring them.

Among other improvements, this release promises better matching of jack 1/2 behavior by setting the jack.merge-monitor option to true by default, DMABUF support for GStreamer, listing of devices with unsupported formats in the PulseAudio API (invalid formats), and use of native module combo streams as module combo receivers.

In addition, PipeWire 0.3.65 brings back deprecated symbols, improves compatibility between legacy servers and new clients, adds the ability to demultiplex streams for compress offload via FFmpeg in pw-cat, adds a custom prefix to the adapter port, and improves the handling of multicast loopback in the module-rtp-sink module.

Bluetooth LE audio has also been fixed in the new PipeWire release, which also improves compatibility with some Bluetooth devices that send spurious signals, such as the Sennheiser HD 350BT headset.

PipeWire 0.3.65 is now available for download from the project’s GitLab page and can be viewed for further instructions.
