A few days ago, AMD officials announced that it will be held on August 5 at 12:00 AM5 motherboard showcase event, which will introduce the X670 series motherboards from manufacturers such as ASUS, MSI and ASRock.

Now, MSI has opened a preview of its X670 motherboard: as shown above, MSI’s X670 motherboard will support four PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs, one in the common 2280 form factor, two in the wider 2580 form factor, and one in the longer and wider 25110 form factor.

The current mainstream 2280 SSD is 80mm in length and 22mm in width, in addition to the 2230 SSD for small form factor devices and the 22110 SSD for servers, and PCI-SIG is reportedly offering a wider 25mm option for M.2 SSDs in late 2020, providing a larger board size for PCIe 5.0 SSDs. . Clusterlink has already released its flagship PCIe 5.0 SSD controller chip PS5026-E26, and it is expected that a vendor will release a PCIe 5.0 SSD with this host controller later this year.

The new AMD Socket AM5 platform features a new 1718-pin LGA design with support for processors up to 170W TDP, dual-channel DDR5 memory and the new SVI3 power infrastructure. AMD Socket AM5 also features PCIe 5.0 lanes with up to 24 lanes.

According to AMD’s official website, there are three levels of AM5 series motherboards.

  • X670 Extreme: Provides PCIe 5.0 support for two graphics slots and one memory slot, bringing powerful connectivity and higher overclocking performance
  • X670: PCIe5.0 support for one memory slot and one graphics slot (with PCIe5.0 support for the graphics slot optional), designed for enthusiasts to overclock
  • B650: With PCIe 5.0 support for memory slots, designed for high-performance users.

The specific release date of AMD’s Raider 7000 series processors has not yet been announced, but some sources say it will be available on September 15.
