Microsoft’s first-party Xbox new games next year will increase the price by $10

If you’re planning to buy some Microsoft-made Xbox games, you might want to get them before the end of 2022. Microsoft has announced a $10 price increase for its first-party Xbox game titles in 2023. This means that new games like the upcoming Forza Motorsport, Redfall and Starfield will all cost $70 instead of the $60 price tag that currently belongs to the Xbox Game Studio collection.

The company provided the following statement on the price increase, noting that all titles will also be available on Xbox Game Pass as an alternative to the price increase.

We have been insisting that we raise prices after the holidays so that more families can give the game as a reciprocal gift. Starting in 2023, our new, full-price games built for the next generation, including Forza Motorsport, Redfall and Starfield, will be available on all platforms for $69.99. This price reflects the content, scale and technical complexity of these games. As with all games developed by our Xbox team, they will be included in the Game Pass subscription service on the same day as the launch.

This announcement is not surprising. A number of other studios with titles on both Xbox and Playstation have already raised the price point for their games to $70. In an interview with media outlet Decoder in October, Microsoft Games CEO Phil Spencer alluded to the company raising the prices of its games after the 2022 holiday season.

“We’ve tried to keep the price of our consoles the same and also tried to keep the games and our subscription prices as unincreased as possible, but I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever,” Spencer admitted in an October interview.” I think at some point we’re going to have to raise the price of certain things, but at least this holiday season we think it’s really important to keep the price the same.”

The upcoming price increase continues to make Xbox Game Pass subscriptions a better purchase for gamers looking to play many new games without having to shell out $70 for each one.
