Brad Sams, a reporter who specializes in reporting on Microsoft, revealed in the latest podcast that Microsoft plans to launch the next Windows system in 2024, three years after the launch of Windows 11, and it is estimated that it will be named after it goes public for “Windows 12”.
Brad Sams revealed in the podcast that the internal codename of “Windows 12” is “Hudson Valley” (Hudson Valley), while the current internal codename of the Windows 11 system is “Sun Valley”. The Hudson Valley is a valley formed around the Hudson River in New York State, USA, from Albany and Troy in the north to Yonkers in the south.
UI tweaks
Microsoft has shown a desktop prototype at the Ignite conference in October 2022, which may be the “Windows 12” design.
The main changes and features are as follows:
- The taskbar adopts a floating design and no longer occupies the entire screen width.
- A floating search box is set in the middle of the top.
- System icons, such as the notification area, appear in the upper-right corner of the screen above the desktop background.
- Weather and other information in the “widget” is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.
System Requirements Adjustment
According to German media deskmodder, the memory requirements of the “Windows 12” system have been upgraded from 4GB to 8GB, and a Pluton chip is also required for certain tasks and versions.
Pluton is a security processor integrated directly into the main processor of computers, tablets and smartphones. It is designed to provide a hardware-based root of trust that helps ensure a device’s security features are tamper-resistant and secure.
Microsoft intends to retain the existing TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and processor requirements. Increased memory may be related to cloud system CloudPC service.
