Microsoft Windows 11 tests AI to add depth-of-field effect to wallpaper

The latest news is that Microsoft is testing an AI feature for Windows 11 that allows backgrounds to be added with a depth of field.

According to a picture released by Windows tipster Albacore, Microsoft has added a switch called “Depth effects” under the Personalization –> Background option in Windows 11.

According to the switch description, when users turn on the option, Windows 11 will use AI to add a depth-of-field effect to the current background image (wallpaper), which means that one part will be highlighted and the other part will be blurred, sounding a bit like portrait mode when taking photos on a cell phone.

It’s unclear whether the feature requires specific hardware and whether it has special requirements for wallpapers.

Twitter user PhantomOcean3 found a string containing the same description in the Windows Insider version, as well as a string called “Parallax Background”.
