The file size of Windows is gradually growing, and the latest version of Win11 has increased in size by approximately 7.586% compared to the last version of Win10.

The latest Windows 11 23H2 ISO is about 6.24GB, while the size of Windows 10 22H2 is 5.8GB. The former is 0.44GB larger than the latter.

If we now look back at historical data on the recent changes in the size of the Windows operating system, this growth process is even more obvious.

For example, Windows 10 version 1703 was less than 4GB in size, while the last Windows 10 version released in November 2022 grew to 5.8 GB.

Of course, Windows 11 is showing a similar trend. According to data from Windows Latest, the ISO sizes of the three versions of Windows 11 are as follows:

  • Windows 11 2021 (all editions) 64-bit – 5.7GB
  • Windows 11 2022 (all editions) 64-bit – 5.8GB
  • Windows 11 2023 (all editions) 64-bit – 6.24GB

At present, the increase in the size of Windows 11 23H2 can be attributed to a series of new features, such as a new version of File Explorer developed based on WinSDK.

The Win11 23H2 update also added a new “Home” panel in settings, which can display Microsoft 365 information through various “cards”, including current status and benefits. You can also directly access it from settings. Check out OneDrive cloud storage.

As Windows features continue to be updated, its file size naturally increases. But at the same time, a large number of users began to complain about the bloated pre-installed software in Win11.

While Microsoft is trying to reduce system bloat by splitting up apps like Movies & TV and Maps, it’s clear that’s not enough for these users.
