According to Japanese news, Microsoft released two new Windows 11 internal beta versions today, which are the Build 23424 version of the Dev channel and the Build 25330 version of the Canary channel. Microsoft made some adjustments to the internal test plan earlier this month, adding a Canary channel and transferring the current Dev channel internal test users to this channel, while still retaining a Dev channel.
Dev Preview Build 23424
This latest developer channel release adds two new features, an evolved widget panel with a larger canvas that can have up to three columns, and new areas that “provide users with quick access to their apps and services.” The ability to create widgets and allow users to take a high-value break in their personalized feed,” and another is Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) for plugged-in devices, including desktops. Windows 11 users are already familiar with the CABC feature when they were running their laptops on battery power, but this feature is now extended to include plugged-in devices.
Additionally, build 23424 includes a new setting to “Get the latest updates as soon as possible” under Settings > Windows Update. While this new setting has no effect on the Dev channel and only applies to the Beta channel “to allow for a more seamless switch to the enabled package for alpha users”, it is included in the Dev channel for testing backend services.
Canary Preview Build 25330
There aren’t any big new features in this Canary channel release, but there are a few notable changes, including making the snipping tool open with the print screen key by default, and a more Windows 11-like settings page for wheeled devices like the Surface Dial.
Microsoft Store Updates
Windows Closed Beta users on the Canary and Dev channels of the Microsoft Store app version 22303.1401.x or later will see some changes to the Store, including a new way to install free apps and games, and a new design when buying apps and games in the Store, and a new user experience for the in-app rating dialog.
