Microsoft Windows 11 Beta 22621.885 Released, Added Energy Advice, Widget Extended View

Recently, Microsoft began to provide two separate Windows 11 preview updates to beta channel for staggered release. Today, the company released new 22621.885 and 22623.885 (KB5020054) updates, with Build 22623.885 turning on new features by default and Build 22621.885 turning off new features by default.

New in Build 22623.885
Access Windows Studio Effects from Quick Settings

For devices that support Neural Processing Units (NPUs), Windows Studio effects can now be accessed directly from the taskbar’s quick settings. This makes enabling and configuring camera effects (background blur, eye contact and auto-framing) and audio effects (voice focus) quick and easy. If desired, you can still access these effects in the settings page.

Microsoft is asking Windows Insiders to submit feedback in the Feedback Center (WIN + F) under Power and Battery > Energy Suggestions.

Energy Suggestions

We are starting to roll out energy suggestions under Settings > System > Power and Battery > Energy Suggestions. Review and apply these suggestions to improve the energy efficiency of your PC and reduce your carbon footprint.

[We’re starting to roll out this feature, so it’s not available to everyone yet because we plan to monitor feedback and see how it works before we push it out to everyone.]

Extended View in Gadgets

Need more space in your gadget panel? Can’t see everything at a glance? We’re trying some changes that will allow you to expand the size of your gadget palette.

Here are the changes and improvements in Build 22623.885
System Tray

This release includes support for rearranging the hidden icons in the system tray, which is available starting with Build 22623.746.

Input

We are introducing a new Tamil Angar keyboard for Tamil. To add it, make sure Tamil (Singapore), Tamil (Malaysia), Tamil (Sri Lanka) or Tamil (India) is listed under Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region, then click “…” next to Language, select the language option and add Tamil Anga (QWERTY) to the list of keyboards.

This version includes support for using Clipboard History (WIN + V) on the password field.

The Touch Keyboard icon option under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar is now switched from a drop-down menu where you can select “Never”, “Always” or “When no keyboard is connected”.

Here are the bug fixes in Build 22623.885
Taskbar and System Tray

Fixed some explorer.exe crashes related to recent taskbar and system tray work.

The pin / unpin visual effect is now displayed when dragging the system tray icon to any position in the system tray, instead of only when hovering over the Show hidden icons button.

Fixed an issue with some chat apps (supported) not flashing new messages or opening previews when hovering in the system tray.

Show hidden icons in the system tray fly in should resize responsively with changes to prevent empty space and empty columns.

Fixed an issue that could cause the Show hidden icons flyout to disconnect from the taskbar in some cases.

Fixed an issue that caused the volume icon in the system tray to incorrectly display as muted.

Fixed an issue where calling the context menu for an item in the system tray may not put the context menu in the foreground, it would get stuck behind the taskbar.

File Explorer

Some work has been done to help improve the performance of deleting files through File Explorer (when emptying the Recycle Bin or using Shift + Delete) if a large number of files are deleted at once.

The following fixes were made to build 22621.885 and 22623.885
We fixed an issue that affected some modern applications. It prevented them from opening.

Here are the known issues
General

We are investigating reports that audio stopped working for some insiders in recent Beta channel builds.

Taskbar and System Tray

The taskbar sometimes flickers when switching between the desktop stance and tablet stance.

The taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop stance and tablet stance.

When using the bottom right gesture to view quick settings, the taskbar sometimes stays in the expanded state instead of dissolving to the collapsed state.
