Microsoft Windows 10 pushes August optional update to fix high CPU usage

In addition to releasing optional non-security updates for Win11 22H2 and 21H2 today, Microsoft also released KB5029331 optional updates for Win10 systems. After installation, the version number rose to 19045.3393.

This update focuses on improving the positioning method and fixing errors related to high CPU usage, BitLocker, and virtual print queues.

The updated content is as follows:

  • New: This update improves the way Windows is positioned to help provide users with better weather, news, and traffic information.
  • New features: This update further introduces the notification badge function in the start menu for users who have logged in with a Microsoft account.
  • This update supports Israel’s Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes.
  • This update addresses an issue affecting the display of the search box.
  • This update fixes an issue where switching from the Settings app’s Windows Backup page would not sync.

Improve:

  • This update resolves an issue affecting the Group Policy service. There is no longer a 30-second (default wait) wait for network availability, so policies cannot be processed correctly.
  • This update adds a new API for D3D12 standalone devices. You can use it to create multiple D3D12 devices on the same adapter.
  • This update resolves an issue affecting WS_EX_LAYERED windows. Originally windows could be rendered in the wrong size or in the wrong position. This happens when you zoom the display.
  • This update addresses an issue where print jobs sent to virtual print queues would fail. They will fail without any errors.
  • This update addresses an issue that caused high CPU usage. This happens when the “fBlockNonDomain” policy is enabled.
  • This update addresses an issue affecting disk partitions. This problem may cause the system to stop working. This problem mainly occurs after you delete a disk partition and add the space of the deleted partition to the existing BitLocker partition.
  • This update addresses an issue affecting Result Set Policies (RSOP). This happens when the Windows LAPS “BackupDirectory” policy is set to 1 (i.e. “Backup to AAD”).
  • This update addresses an issue for those using Windows Update for Business. To put it simply, the system will ask you to change your password when you log in, causing the change operation to fail, and then you will not be able to log in, and the error code is 0xc000006d.
