Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC adds Windows Backup app after update KB5030211

The KB5030211 Tuesday update patch brings a new feature to Windows 10 – “Windows Backup”, and it is a new application that cannot be uninstalled.

With Windows Backup, the system can automatically back up your files, apps, system settings, user information, Edge settings, third-party browser data, and more, and the backed up data can be restored on a new device or after reinstalling the system. Of course, you need to log in with a Microsoft account.

KB5030211 was released on September 12, and Reddit users discovered that the update had installed the app without their permission and could not be uninstalled.

Although ordinary consumers have become accustomed to Microsoft’s strategy, there are still many enterprise customers, especially LTSC users, who are dissatisfied with the behavior of installing software by themselves in Windows.

Of course, we can disable this feature with the help of PowerShell, essentially removing the Windows Feature Experience Pack, which will disable two features at the same time – the emoji picker and the “Win + Shift + S” shortcut.

If you don’t mind losing some Windows features, please follow the steps below to uninstall “Windows Backup”:

Open the Start menu or Windows search.

Search for PowerShell and run it with administrative rights.

Enter the following command in PowerShell:
 Restart.

If you want to revert the changes, run the following command and reboot the system:

DISM.exe /Online /add-capability /CapabilityName:Windows.Client.ShellComponents~~~~0.0.1.0

Exit mobile version
