Microsoft to stop translation in OneNote for Windows 10 this November

Microsoft recently released a notice announcing that it will start in November 2023, stopping the translation function in OneNote for Windows 10 application.

Users can continue to use the OneNote for Windows 10 app after November, but an error message will pop up when trying to access the translation function.

While the OneNote for Windows 10 app will still work, Microsoft has an alternative solution for those who rely on the translation feature: visit the Microsoft Store and download the OneNote app.

In addition to using the translation function, you need to purchase a subscription to Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, Business Standard, Business Premium, Apps for Business or Apps for Enterprise.

Office Home & Student and Microsoft 365 Business Basic subscriptions do not support the OneNote app.

OneNote for Windows 10 app, also known as OneNote Universal App, was initially built as a Win10 Universal Apps app and was originally planned to replace the traditional OneNote client, but was gradually abandoned by Microsoft due to the many challenges it faced in the process of advancing in the enterprise environment.

Along with Microsoft’s gradual abandonment of the UWP program, the x86 client for OneNote has regained prominence. As of today, OneNote for Windows 10 has been officially retired and only the old version is available in the Store.
