Microsoft Teams will support ultrasonic whistle detection, explicit recording consent

Microsoft Teams is an online communication and collaboration software that the company keeps updated and upgraded on a regular basis, constantly bringing new features.

Microsoft will add birthdays, career changes and pending meeting invitations to Teams profile cards. However, that’s not the only feature planned, as Microsoft recently updated its Microsoft 365 roadmap with a host of new features coming soon.

First, Microsoft Teams will feature “ultrasonic whistle detection” on Windows and Mac. When multiple people attend a Teams meeting in the same room with their own microphones and speakers on, there will be echoes and “whistling” sounds due to audio feedback loops. Microsoft can solve this problem by automatically detecting if more than one laptop is nearby in the same meeting and if there is at least one laptop with its microphone on. When these conditions are met, participants after the first will be notified and their microphones and speakers will be automatically muted when they join the meeting.

In addition, Teams on Windows and Mac will gain support for “explicit recording consent” policies. Users’ audio, video and on-screen sharing will not be recorded until they give their consent.

Also, Microsoft Teams administrators will be able to use a cleaner UI in the Teams admin center on the web. infrequently used left-hand navigation items will be hidden by default, but administrators can fix them again as needed.

There are some better enhancements to Microsoft Teams. Emergency locations for routing emergency calls will be automatically suggested, meetings can be joined from the Calendar view on Apple CarPlay on the iPhone, and more customization options for live captions, including the ability to scroll to the previous caption up to a minute ago. Finally, Teams customers on the government cloud will be able to send, view, record and review short Teams video clips.

All of the above features are scheduled for a full rollout in March 2023, although the timeline mentioned on the Microsoft 365 roadmap is currently tentative and subject to delay.
