Microsoft Teams introduces Green Screen feature for clearer Virtual Backgrounds

0

Recently Microsoft’s online collaboration platform Teams public preview version introduced a new feature: green screen (green screen). This feature is designed to improve the clarity of the background around the user’s face, head, ears and hair to improve the existing virtual background.

The feature is best suited for use with professional green screens, but users can also achieve a similar effect using a solid-colored wall behind them or a clear backdrop. The curtain or backdrop must be flat and stain-free, and there must be no dents or dings where things are hanging,” said Jan Steberl, Microsoft Teams project manager, in a blog post. Users must apply a background effect in a Teams meeting to enable the green screen effect and should choose the background color carefully to apply the effect correctly and get better quality.”

To use the green screen feature, users need to first join a Teams meeting, then click the “More” icon in the meeting toolbar and select “Video Effects”. Then, in the Video Effects panel page, go to Green Screen Settings in the Background section and click on the link to open the Team Settings -> Devices -> Green Screen page. > Devices-> Green Screen” button. Users can then manually select the color of the wall behind them by clicking on the background icon in the bottom right corner of the preview window, or select green if there is a dedicated green screen.

Microsoft says this feature is currently only supported on Windows and macOS devices and requires an Intel chip. This excludes any laptops with AMD chips, as well as Mac computers running M1 or M2 chips. In addition, the green screen feature will also disable background blur, and currently does not support cooperation mode (Together Mode).

This feature is now open to all Teams Public Preview users.
