Microsoft Surface 9 Pro Laptop’s latest model drops AMD processor

We already know that Microsoft wants to combine the Surface Pro and Pro X lineups into one device family, offering users the opportunity to choose between Intel or ARM processors. This is similar to the way Microsoft previously let users choose between AMD and Intel CPUs to configure the Surface Laptop 4. Unfortunately, the Surface Pro “5” appears to remove this privilege, making the device available only with 12th-generation Intel processors.

WinFuture claims that the current news only relates to the digital lineup and they are not 100% sure that Microsoft has decided to move away from the AMD-based Surface Laptop, so we need to remain skeptical about this information, despite the accurate leaks documented by that source.

As with every other Surface update, the upcoming computer will come in new case colors for the first time. In addition to the now classic black and platinum, Microsoft plans to introduce “Forest” (green) and “Sapphire” (blue) variants for the Surface Pro “9”.

In terms of price, the Surface Pro “9” will be available in Europe shortly, with the entry-level model equipped with Intel Core i5-1235U, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD for about 1,300 euros, the basic 13-inch Surface Laptop “5” will get a price tag of 1,200 euros, and the 15-inch variant for 1,500 Euros.

For now, the latest news contradicts rumors claiming that Microsoft is preparing a new Surface Laptop with Ryzen 6000 processors. Other leaks point to an upcoming gaming-focused Surface laptop with only 12th-generation Intel processors. Fortunately, we’re only a few weeks away from the launch, so things will be clear soon.
