Microsoft today released an emergency out-of-band (OOB) update KB5020953 for Windows 10 systems to fix the OneDrive crash that the company recently reported.

The update applies to versions 20H2, 21H1, 21H2 and 22H2 of Windows 10, both Arm and x86/64, and with this OB update KB5020953, the version numbers are bumped to 19042.2194, 19043.2194 and 19044.2194.

Microsoft did not disclose exactly how this issue was resolved, and the changelog for that update only mentions the following.

"Resolved an issue that caused Microsoft OneDrive to stop working. The issue would occur after unlinking a device, stopping syncing, or logging out of an account."

Since this is an out-of-band update, the update is not available through Windows Update in Settings and must be downloaded manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
