Microsoft today pushed out Build 25236 update for Windows 11 Dev Preview users, bringing several fixes to the content.

According to the official blog, Microsoft is testing the Windows 11 taskbar search icon prompt box in the US to improve the usage and efficiency of the tool.

In addition, Windows Dev Preview Build 25236 brings several fixes, which are listed below.

Byline

Narration

  • Fixes an issue that caused the natural voice to not speak in the narrator.

Taskbar and System Tray

  • Fixes an issue that caused File Explorer entries to show up in the taskbar if hidden icon float controls were opened.
  • Fixes an issue that caused the taskbar preview to freeze or appear blank and not open when trying to switch between windows using the Windows key + (#) keyboard command.
  • The “Show hidden icons” floating control in the system tray should now responsively resize with changes to prevent spaces and lines.
  • Fixed multiple issues related to the taskbar that affected explorer.exe reliability.
  • Fixes an issue that caused the volume icon in the system tray to incorrectly display as muted.
  • Fixed a GDI handle leak related to updating the notification center icon in the taskbar that would eventually cause explorer.exe to crash on devices that received a large number of notifications.
  • The narrator will now broadcast the app’s fixed and unfixed status in the taskbar.

File Explorer

  • Fixed an issue that caused File Explorer to crash when closing tabs for some users.
  • Another fix for an issue that could cause incorrect separator lines in the File Explorer navigation pane.

Settings

  • Hiding the battery graph on the Power and Battery page when connecting a UPS, as the capacity information displayed in this case was incorrect.
  • If a user has not set up a self-service terminal, the system will update the text on Account > Other Users > Self-Service Terminal to more clearly indicate that the user needs to do so.
  • Fixed the fact that if the properties of an audio device were entered, it could accidentally show up in the list of output devices in System > Sound, even though it was actually an input device.
  • In the Accessibility settings for the Color Filter, the Invert option will work properly again, not just set the computer to grayscale colors.

Other

  • Fixed an issue that caused some Preview Experience members to see SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error checking in recent releases.

Known Issues
General

  • Investigating reports of audio stopping working for some users after upgrading to the latest version.

  • When installing Dev versions using the latest ISO, users may receive a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION error check referencing win32kfull.sys.
  • An issue in this release is being investigated where switching projection mode using the Project section of WIN + P / Quick Setup does not work. Users can temporarily use the projection icon in the system tray (Win + K) to toggle the projection mode.

Taskbar

  • The taskbar sometimes flickers when switching between the desktop pose and the tablet pose.
  • When using the right bottom edge gesture to view Quick Settings, the taskbar sometimes stays in the expanded state instead of closing to the collapsed state.

System tray

  • The Chat app does not flash new messages or open previews when hovering in the system tray.

Start Menu

  • Investigating reports of folders in the Start menu not opening on the first attempt.
  • Investigating an issue with Chinese users having garbled navigation titles in the Start Menu’s list of all apps.

  • In right-to-left display languages (e.g. Arabic), when clicking on the expanded view of the widget panel, the content is animated out of view before the widget resizes.

Microsoft has also updated the Windows 11 App Store with the latest version 22210.1401.x, which adds the ability to discover and redeem offers from new computers. Users will be able to more easily discover devices that come with digital add-on offers (Office, Game Pass, or indie games) and redeem it.
