Microsoft PowerPoint Web Edition adds support for digital rulers

Over the past few months, Microsoft has been making some small but regular updates for Office PowerPoint Web users, including adding a way to upload and save locally stored videos into PowerPoint presentations, and some improvements to its accessibility area.

Now, Microsoft has released several new features and improvements for web users who like to draw digitally in PowerPoint, one of which is the addition of rulers in the application.

According to Microsoft:

"The new digital ruler helps you create and insert lines accurately. You can also use the built-in angle display to create accurate angles between lines."

There is also a new feature in the PowerPoint drawing tab, users can now undo and redo ink strokes directly from the tab instead of having to go to the Home tab.

You can also help improve your PowerPoint presentations with the new laser pointer feature in Slides. According to Microsoft:

"The new laser pointer in slideshow mode allows you to easily draw the audience's attention to important parts of a given slide. It also enables you to temporarily use ink on slides to further help you focus on the key points of your content element."

Microsoft points out that laser pointer digital ink on slides is not permanently placed, it is only temporary and disappears after a few seconds.

Note: PowerPoint for the web now lets users create straight lines with a digital stylus or mouse, simply by holding down the Shift key while highlighting or inking a slide.

Microsoft said the PowerPoint team is working on an upcoming feature that will allow users to partially erase ink strokes with the Point Eraser tool, which will be added to PowerPoint for the web in the second half of 2023.
