In the early hours of this morning’s Meta Connect 2023, Meta announced a new chatbot, named Meta AI. The company also partnered with Microsoft to integrate Bing search into the Meta AI chatbot.

Meta AI is now available in beta in the US, Meta said. Users can access it through Meta’s social media and chat services, including WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

It's powered by a custom model that leverages technology from Llama 2 and our latest Large Language Model (LLM) research. In text-based chats, Meta AI can access real-time information through a search partnership with Bing and provide image generation tools.

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president and chief marketing officer for consumers at Microsoft, commented on the new partnership with Meta on his official Bing blog:

Beyond the Microsoft portfolio, we're a platform company, providing others with the tools and services they need to realize their AI ambitions. That's why today we're excited to announce that we've begun working with Meta to integrate Bing into the Meta AI chat experience to deliver more timely, up-to-the-minute answers through access to real-time search information.Bing's integration extends to Meta AI, as well as a number of Meta's other AIs for sending messages in WhatsApp, Messenger and WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

In addition, Bing search is integrated into OpenAI’s ChatGPT. OpenAI announced today on its X account that ChatGPT can now browse the Internet, powered by Microsoft Bing with direct source links, and that ChatGPT is no longer limited to pre-September 2021 data.
