Microsoft never discussed the possibility of “Call of Duty” becoming an Xbox exclusive

In Microsoft’s written statement to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood said they never discussed the possibility of making Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox consoles. In the statement, Hood wrote: “A key aspect of the valuation is a projection of Activision’s future sales on all platforms, including continued sales on Sony A [redacted] projection of future total sales of Call of Duty on PlayStation.”

“The possibility of bringing Call of Duty exclusively to Xbox has never been evaluated or discussed by me, or even mentioned in any presentation or discussion to the Board. I understand the need to keep Call of Duty on other platforms. The strategic basis and financial valuation of this acquisition are designed to give Activision a broader reach for its games, not less.”

Hood added that the most important thing about the acquisition for Microsoft shareholders is that it must be profitable from the first year and “help improve earnings per share.

Last week, Microsoft Games CEO Phil Spencer also told the judge that Microsoft will continue to release “Call of Duty” on the PlayStation console and that the game will continue to be available on the PlayStation platform as long as Sony allows it.
