Microsoft moves forward with 10,000 layoffs, axes entire ethics and social team in AI division

According to the latest report from foreign technology media Platformer, Microsoft is advancing the plan to lay off 10,000 employees announced in January this year, dismissing the entire ethics and society team in the artificial intelligence (AI) department.

The report states that Microsoft no longer has a dedicated team to ensure that AI principles and product design are closely related. Microsoft said it will retain the Office of Responsible AI department, responsible for developing rules for AI projects.

Microsoft later released a statement emphasizing that it will continue to invest in and develop responsible AI, some of the content are as follows.

"Microsoft is committed to developing AI products and experiences safely and responsibly, and is doing so through staffing, process grooming and partnerships.

The Microsoft Office of Responsible AI team has expanded rapidly over the past six years, working with other Microsoft divisions to advance AI projects on the ground.

Microsoft appreciates the contributions of its existing ethics and social teams and continues to advance responsible AI development."
