Microsoft may launch a cheap version of XGP: with ads, not first-party games

Microsoft appears to be considering a cheaper, advertised version of its Xbox Game Pass, according to a recent survey it distributed to players.

Xbox Game Pass members get to play new games every month without paying any additional fees beyond the subscription fee. Microsoft offers a wide variety of games, from 3A titles to indie games, some of which are available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Currently, Xbox Game Pass is available in two versions, a standard version for $10 per month and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $15 per month, which includes Xbox Live Gold for online multiplayer, special benefits, and an EA Play subscription.

Microsoft’s aforementioned survey invites users to comment on the current Xbox Game Pass and asks if they would be willing to accept advertising if the subscription cost was lower.

An unsourced screenshot of the blurb shows that the Family Edition is 22 euros per month and the Personal Edition is 3 euros per month, and while its cost is lower, first-party games will not be added first and will likely be added after 6 months. There will also be some ads, which will appear before playing games from the XGP library.

Microsoft also applied for a personalized advertising patent, which can make the game advertising in front of the player in a more “affinity” way, I do not know whether it is related to this.
