Microsoft has only two years of Win10 support left, still has nearly 71% of the share

According to Microsoft’s official news previously announced, the home and professional versions of Windows 10 will stop support on October 14, 2025, when the last security update will be released, which means that Windows 10 users still have two years to upgrade their hardware and install Windows 11.

According to Statcounter, as of October 2023, the percentage of PCs worldwide with Windows 11 installed is about 23%, compared to 71% for Windows 10. That’s a huge gap, especially when you consider that Microsoft plans to end support for Windows 10 systems in about two years.

The chart above, from StatCounter in October 2023, shows that Windows 10 has the largest market share, with about 70.88% of desktops. windows 11 is the second most popular version, with a 24.89% market share. Windows 11 is the second most popular version with a market share of 24.89%. In addition, Windows 7 still has a market share of about 2.9%. Windows 8.1 has a market share of about 0.57%, Windows 8 has a market share of about 0.34%, and Windows XP has a market share of about 0.3%.

In addition, it is noted that the Steam Hardware Survey also confirms that Windows 10 is more popular than Windows 11, but users are slowly migrating: Windows 10 is the most popular version of Windows among those using Windows on Steam, with 57.97%. Windows 11 is second, with a usage rate of 37.43%. Windows 7 (64-bit) has a 1.23% share, Windows 8.1 has a 0.18% share, and the non-64-bit version of Windows 7 has a 0.06% share.

So what happens to PCs that continue to run on Windows 10 in 2025 and beyond? Users will be able to continue to use this operating system just as they can still use Windows 7. In addition, just like on Windows 7, some third-party companies will commit to continue supporting Windows 10.

It’s also worth noting that Microsoft has confirmed that upgrading to Windows 11 is completely free for eligible Windows 10 PCs until 2025.
