Microsoft today announced more new features for its Bing Search and Bing Chat services at its Build 2023 developer conference. The biggest highlight is that Bing Search will soon be integrated directly into OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot.
Microsoft is OpenAI’s primary financial and development partner in the ChatGPT project, and Microsoft has been using OpenAI’s technology since the launch of the Bing chatbot earlier this year.
In a blog post, Microsoft said, “ChatGPT will now have a world-class search engine built in to provide more timely, updated answers and access to information from the web. ChatGPT answers can now be based on search and web data, and include quotes so you can learn more — all directly from within the chat.”
ChatGPT Plus subscribers will get the new Bing search feature first, but it will also be available for free subscribers in the near future via a plugin that will add Bing search to the chatbot.
Speaking of plugins, Microsoft announced in early May that Bing Chat will support third-party plugins. Today at Build 2023, the company confirmed that developers will be able to develop plug-ins that will work on a number of different platforms, including Bing Chat, ChatGPT, Dynamics 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Windows Copilot.

Microsoft said these new add-ons will be available in the sidebar of the Bing Chat or Edge browsers in the coming weeks, both for desktop and mobile platforms. The company also said the Bing Chat plug-in will soon be integrated into the newly launched Windows Copilot and Edge browsers.
