Micron to push 32Gb DDR5 memory chips with up to 128GB capacity in a single stick

According to Tom’s hardware reports, Micron is the first company to launch 24Gb DDR5 memory chips. Now, Micron has revealed that it is ready to mass-produce 32Gb DDR5 chips as well as larger capacity memory modules in 2024.

Last year, Micron reportedly built 24Gb memory chips on its 1-alpha (1-alpha) process technology. Now, 32Gb DDR5 chips will be built on Micron’s 1 beta (1-beta) process, the company’s most advanced production node. At this time, Micron has not revealed the data transfer rate of its 32Gb devices.

The 32Gb DDR5 DRAM IC is aimed primarily at data center-grade memory modules, paving the way for 1TB DDR5 modules (using 32 8-Hi 32Gb stacks), but Micron Technology isn’t rushing things, and will only offer 128GB DDR5 memory modules based on the chip next year. In the future, Micron plans to introduce 192GB and 256GB DDR5 modules.

Micron’s roadmap also features GDDR7 graphics memory chips, which are expected to be mass-produced in mid-2024, with a data transfer rate of 32 GT/s and a choice of 16Gb and 24Gb particle capacities.

As reported earlier, Micron has now announced that it is sampling its HBM3 Gen 2 memory to customers, with 1.2 TB / s of aggregate bandwidth and 8-high stacks of 24GB.
