Micron’s DDR5 server memory portfolio for data centers has been validated in the fourth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor family.

According to the report, Micron DDR5 doubles the memory bandwidth offered compared to previous generations. The upgrade to DDR5 will bring higher bandwidth and help fully unlock the computing power of each processor, thus alleviating the performance bottleneck it may face in the coming years.

Micron data shows SPECjbb delivers a nearly 49 percent performance improvement over its predecessor in key jOPS (Java runs per second) benchmark tests.

In addition to higher memory bandwidth and enhanced performance, Micron DDR5 memory also features as on-chip error correction code (ODECC) and limited failure to improve reliability across the data center. the ODECC feature corrects single-bit errors and detects multi-bit errors.

By partnering with Lenovo, Micron DDR5 combined with fourth-generation Intel Xeon 8480H Platinum processors can increase SAP workload processing by 43 percent compared to Micron DDR4 combined with third-generation Intel Xeon 8380 Platinum processors, said Micron.
