Micron Announces $2.75 Billion Investment in India for Packaging and Testing Facility

Micron Technology announced today that it plans to build a new assembly and testing plant in Gujarat, India. The new plant will enable the assembly and testing of DRAM and NAND products.

Construction of the new assembly and test facility in Gujarat is expected to begin in phases in 2023, Micron said. The first phase will be operational by the end of 2024, and the second phase will start in the second half of this century. Micron’s investment in the two phases of the project will be as high as 825 million US dollars and will create as many as 5,000 new direct jobs and 15,000 community jobs in the next few years post.

According to reports, Micron Technology will receive financial support of 50% of the total project cost from the central government of India and an incentive of 20% of the total project cost from Gujarat. The total investment of Micron Technology and the Indian government in these two phases will be as high as 2.75 billion US dollars.
