Meta targets Twitter user churn, developing decentralized competitor

After Elon Musk took the helm of Twitter, he instituted a series of controversial measures that lost many ad owners, media organizations and regular users. The news is that Meta is targeting this opportunity and is building a decentralized Twitter competitor.

According to a report by foreign technology media moneycontrol, Meta is developing a Twitter-like product codenamed “P92” that supports the ActivityPub decentralized social protocol.

It is learned from the report that this “P92” product will use the Instagram brand, allowing the use of Instagram accounts to log in to the product.

Moneycontrol has also seen a copy of an internal product brief detailing the app’s functionality and various product features. It’s unclear how far along “P92” is in development, with sources close to the project saying it’s still a work in progress.
