Meta confirms next-gen Quest VR headset will launch in 2023, priced between $300-$500

In Meta’s latest earnings call, outgoing CFO Dave Whener said that the “next generation of consumer Quest VR headsets” will be available “later next year”. The official name was not announced, but it’s expected to be the Meta Quest 3.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told analyst Ben Thompson earlier this month that Meta Quest 3 is in development and could be priced between $300 (about 2,154 yuan) and $500 (about 3,590 yuan), which would make the Meta Quest 3 in development. Bringing it more in line with previous Quest headsets — the Quest 2 starts at $299, rather than the latest Quest Pro.

While the Quest 3 may be cheaper than the Quest Pro, there are indications that the Meta Quest 3 may include some of the elements of a high-end VR headset, and as previously reported by UploadVR, Zuckerberg has said that facial and eye tracking will be “a big focus” and that the Quest 3 may have a “Pancake lens” similar to that of the Quest Pro. At least one early tip suggests that the Quest 3 could have a “Pancake lens” similar to the Quest Pro, which would reduce the thickness of the device.
