In traditional car companies, most electric brands can be seen in the naming, such as Mercedes-Benz’s “EQ”, BMW’s “i” and Audi’s e-Tron models and so on.

The latest report shows that this unique naming will lose its meaning as Mercedes-Benz announces the launch of electric products for its entire model line in 2025, so there is talk that Mercedes-Benz will scrap the “EQ” brand for its next generation of electric vehicles.

Handelsblatt cites company insiders as saying that the EQ brand is becoming redundant as Mercedes’ lineup becomes more and more dominated by electric models. They plan to eliminate the redundant EQ logo on new electric cars starting in 2024, “which will put an end to the confusion over the names of the various models” the “EQ” name is also used for light-hybrid and plug-in models).

The company also says it will launch a rugged, all-electric G-Class 4×4 and a long-range compact sedan based on the EQXX concept in the next two years.

Mercedes expects to phase out gasoline vehicles in most markets from 2030, with the latest C-Class likely to be sold until around 2028 and a new E-Class gasoline vehicle to be introduced this year, including its sister models, the GLC and GLE.
